Combine an award-winning journalist with a comedic entertainer
who explores the lighter side of business and technology and you have Greg
Schwem. During a 15-year career as a humorous speaker, company spokesman
and event emcee, Greg has helped bring levity to business events around the
world. Hi-tech companies including Motorola, Siemens, BAE Systems, Verizon
Wireless, Radio Shack, and the Association of Technology Procurement Professionals
have turned to Greg when it's time to lighten the mood at all day seminars,
roundtable discussions and awards banquets.
A graduate of Northwestern University' renowned Medill School of Journalism,
Schwem brings his reporting and fact-finding skills to the event. "
always tell clients that they can never provide me with too much information,"
Greg says. "The more I know about the company, the easier it will
be to entertain them." Indeed, audiences are amazed when Schwem
makes onstage references to 10-K reports, industry whitepapers and on-line
message boards. They are even more amazed when Greg finds something
funny to say about them. Schwem's quick grasp of technology lead the Chicago
Tribune to dub his stage show, "Comedy With a Byte."
A consummate team player, Schwem is more than happy to play any role that
will make an event successful while leaving audience members entertained and
motivated. Taking advantage of his television reporting skills, companies
such as AT&T Broadband have sent Schwem into the crowd with a camera and
a microphone, conducting humorous, improvisational interviews with audience
members. At a Sprint conference for wireless developers, Schwem fired
up the audience by donning an astronaut suit to emphasize the company's advances
into the future. "People always think meetings are going to be
boring and mundane," said Schwem. "Obviously I disagree.
With a little thought and creativity, the most serious subjects can be fun."
Chicago magazine recently called Schwem "the world's favorite corporate
funnyman." Today Schwem performs close to 100 events a year for
top companies in nearly every industry. In early 2006, he launched a
separate show featuring a drop-dead impersonation of Microsoft Chairman Bill
Gates, complete with makeup designed by Academy award-winning makeup artist
Kevin Haney.
When at home in suburban Chicago, Schwem coaches baseball and soccer for daughter
Natalie, seven, and cleans up after daughter Amy, two. If he has time
left, he enjoys tennis, golf and any, music from the Counting Crows.
